What is Yoga?

Many people think that yoga is just about stretching. Undoubtedly, stretching is involved; however, yoga is really about creating balance in the body through the development of both strength and flexibility. This is achieved through the performance of poses or postures, each of which has specific physical benefits. The poses can be done quickly in succession, creating heat in the body through movement or more slowly to increase stamina and perfect the alignment of the pose. The poses are a constant, but the approach to them varies depending on the tradition in which the teacher has trained.

Your instructors:

We have two yoga instructors, Catherine Huck and Lucy Tennyson.

Catherine Huck

Catherine is a chartered physiotherapist; this gives her the ability to safely restore the balance of your whole body, leaving you feeling healthier, stronger and more relaxed. Her detailed knowledge of anatomy enables her to guide clients with problems to safely participate in a class setting. *Catherine’s mixed ability classes are on Tuesday and Wednesday evening from 6-7 p.m.

Lucy Tennyson

Lucy trained with Cam Yoga and holds a Yoga Alliance 200 hour teaching certificate. She has been practising Yoga for over 40 years. She teaches hatha style yoga, taking a gentle approach and offering plenty of opportunity to warm up, stretch and relax, moving at the pace of the class. She welcomes beginners and anyone who thinks they may not be ‘good at yoga’, or feel just generally unfit or stiff, as well as students wishing to deepen their practice. She pays close attention to alignment and posture, encouraging her students to practise safely and within their own limits. She also teaches at two other local venues. Lucy’s class is on Monday at 12.00pm - 1.15pm.
